Storchenmühle already has a long history. The success story began in 1949 in the cellar of Irmgard and Hans-Joachim Kauffmann in Marktleugast in Upper Franconia, which is where the first products were developed. At the „Storchenmühle“ tavern, the idea of producing functional pushchairs matured and the family business was born.
In 1963, Storchenmühle established its claim as a pioneer in the child car seat sector. At a time when most cars still did not even have seat belts, the company presented the world’s first child seat. The “Niki” model featured a sturdy frame with a comfortable seat and backrest and a padded safety bar. Many other innovations followed, including the first child seat with fastening arms for BMW vehicles in 1973, the forerunner of the Isofix system. With the launch of the first bucket seat in 1978, infants could now be completely protected in the car. The first child seat with its own 4-point belt system was introduced in 1984 for even more safety.
The global company developed into a premium brand that inspired numerous German brands in the children’s sector with its ideas and high quality standards. These included, for example, Concord, Cybex, Maxi-Cosi or Osann. This makes Storchenmühle the founder of the German child car seat industry.
Following their acquisition by the Osann Group in 2018, the brand reached a new level. A total of four new child seat models were launched in 2023 with the distinctive stork feet design and the high standards of technology expected of the Storchenmühle brand. They stand out for their safety, quality and functionality at a consistently high level.
